How did you become addicted?
My family has a history of drug abuse and alcoholism. When I was young I watched my brother go through jail and rehab time after time which was tough on everybody. I dont, by any means, lay all the blame on them. It was me taking and snorting the pills after all.
When I was young, my friend introduced me to his mom's perscription pain killers and it escalated for 4 years.

Your turning point? (What made you choose recovery?)
Three weeks ago, I found the letter my brother had written me from jail when he was 17 years old. since his sobriety, he has a beautiful fiance and son on the way. I thought about how much better everything was for him now that he had recovered and decided that enough was enough. Telling my parents about my addiction was the single hardest, but best, thing I have ever done. Their son who played football and lacrosse and made them so proud had a disapointing second life he had been hiding for years.

Tell us about your recovery.
At first, I thought I could go cold turkey. after a couple days of sleepless nights, chills, sickness, skin crawling I decided I needed some help. I found a clinic that would give me suboxone. After a day or two of that, i realized it was just getting me high like all the other pills I snorted and parachuted. Three weeks later, I am a new person and feel better than ever. I enjoy the ups and downs of an unclouded youth.

Your advice to others?
Reading others' stories about recovery helped me get through this process. read and learn from others. They've been through the same thing as you.

I thought music helped me escape during recover.
